Shabodi is delighted to announce its partnership with the University of Ottawa (uOttawa) to pursue collaborative research on network-aware applications to support a 5G-enabled world.
The collaboration has a three-fold objective:
- Creating awareness about and building network-aware applications at scale to address real-world use cases that leverage the full potential of 5G
- Enabling more opportunities for innovation within uOttawa’s 5G research community
- Enabling more go-to-market ready network-aware applications to maximize the industry's return on investment in 5G
Under the partnership, University of Ottawa students and researchers will have access to Shabodi’s Application Enablement Platform (NetAware), allowing them to experiment and create different applications for real-world industrial sector use cases. uOttawa students are a cut above the rest in 5G research and beyond. The collaboration will allow students and researchers to test their 5G innovation and knowledge in real-world scenarios. The process starts with building niche network-aware applications for several market sectors to bring their 5G use cases to life and maximize the impact of 5G’s speed and low-latency capabilities.
Charles Nagy, Shabodi’s VP of Business Development, said, “Over the last few years, there has been a lot of conversation about how 5G will change the world as we know it, from hyper-efficient remote plant maintenance to even remote surgeries. What’s missing in these conversations is how the industry can leverage 5G’s speed and low latency capabilities in the real world to bring these transformations to life. The answer is in building a robust industry-academia ecosystem for innovation and research. Leveraging 5G’s true potential will also require niche, use-case-based solutions, specifically the development of network- aware applications that simultaneously maximize, rationalize, and optimize 5G’s speed and low latency.”
“We are looking at a future where 5G-specialist application developers and other talents will be in high demand, creating a skill gap. Shabodi is committed to addressing it by working with academia, providing wider access to our NetAware for students and researchers to develop network-aware applications at scale, and building a pool of 5G-ready talent for a 5G-ready world. Our partnership with uOttawa is the first step in that direction, and we can’t wait to see what their renowned researchers and their students will create with our NetAware” Nagy added.
The University of Ottawa has a strong track record in 5G research, constantly looking for new ways to push the boundaries of technology. As a result, their researchers are well-positioned to advance 5G innovation for sectors that stand to benefit from its high speed and low latency capabilities. Through this partnership, Shabodi is leveraging the research and innovation expertise of these researchers while also helping to make them 5G-ready.
Guy Levesque, AVP of Innovation, Partnerships and Entrepreneurship from the University of Ottawa’s Office of the Vice President of Research and Innovation, said, “We are thrilled to be working with Shabodi on enabling a 5G-ready world. Our researchers have a wealth of experience in 5G and its applications. This partnership with Shabodi will help us unlock the full potential of their research results in the real world while developing exceptionally skilled talent ready to lead the next generation of problem-solvers.”
The partnership will also make use of the University of Ottawa’s active participation in 5G enablement through living lab and applied use cases, allowing the researchers to test their ideas and innovations in a real-world setting. This move will not only accelerate 5G network-aware application development but also help test these applications for impact and issues before they are implemented in the industry.
In addition to its work in 5G, the University of Ottawa also has research leadership and expertise in 6G, demonstrating its commitment to staying at the forefront of network technology research. This means that not only will the partnership with Shabodi help advance the implementation of 5G technology and use cases, but also lay the groundwork for innovation in the next generation of network technology.
Through this partnership, Shabodi is building a robust ecosystem of 5G experts who will eventually be responsible for helping Canadian businesses make the most of their investments in 5G and beyond.
