Maximize 5G investment in Mining

With Network-Aware Applications

Mining is a US $500 billion industry. 86% of mining companies plan to invest in wireless infrastructure and advanced programmable networks like LTE, 5G, and WiFi 6, over the next 18 months. These advanced networks offer mining operations higher operational efficiency with deterministic path and safety, automation, and high-end communication systems. Drones operating on a private 5G network can improve mining operations by providing various benefits and efficiencies. Drones offer real-time surveillance with a near 4K video, security, Aerial surveys and mapping, stock pile monitoring and detailed images for measuring an area of tailings and other data for mining.

With Shabodi’s Network-Aware AEP, drone application developers can create, and mining companies can utilize “Network-Aware Applications” to generate significantly higher productivity, improved safety, enhanced efficiency, lower operational costs, and increased ROI on their private network deployments. Network-Aware Applications enabling effective and efficient advanced network deployment will lead to substantial monetization opportunities for the private mobile network operators.

Operating drones will require uninterrupted communication, real-time data transmission & retrieval, seamless operations, compliance with any FAA & FCC regulation, and security. Furthermore, the ability to do any of these applications will require BVLOS (Beyond-Visual-Line-of-Sight) and C2 (Command & Control) testing and communication, which will fall into the above mentioned requirements. Critical for this all to happen is the ability of the network to be aware of requesting of each end device, making the best effort, for example, on Quality on Demand (QoD), allowing for prioritization of the drone asset during times of flight, ability to collect import telematics data that can enable the application to adjust due to aspects like the signal to noise ratio and finally the application may have an array of cameras being used not only for C2 but also surveillance and data capture. The real-time interaction between applications and the network is impossible in today’s private 5G network form. By making the network aware, allowing the application to control such network attributes will be critical for the industry to move forward.
